The Jacksonville Jaguars will kick off the 2022 NFL season on Sunday on the road, taking on the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field. It will be a very interesting matchup with two teams looking to make big time jumps, the Commanders with a new quarterback in the form of Carson Wentz and for the Jaguars Trevor Lawrence with new head coach Doug Pederson.

  • Trevor Lawrence will start in his second season in 2022 with the Jaguars after being selected No. 1 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. In the Jaguars Week 1 contest at Houston in 2021, Lawrence threw for a season-high 332 yards and three TDs.
  • Linebacker Josh Allen, punter Logan Cooke, quarterback Trevor Lawrence, linebacker Foye Oluokun and offensive lineman Brandon Scherff will serve as the team’s captains this season.
  • The 2022 season opener marks Jacksonville’s fourth time playing at Washington in franchise history and the first time they have opened the season against the Commanders. It will be the Jaguars’ first time opening on the road against an NFC opponent since 2018 when they defeated the New York Giants, 20-15.
  • First overall pick Travon Walker will make his NFL debut on Sunday.

What time Jaguars play today?

The Falcons and Jaguars will face off for one more preseason tune-up before the real fun begins.

Jacksonville should be as ready as anyone for the regular season, as it was one of two teams (along with the Raiders) who played four preseason games instead of three as a result of competing in the Hall of Fame game.

The Jaguars have not been shy about letting their starters get some playing time, as starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence has played in two of their three preseason games so far. Lawrence has been solid, completing 60.6 percent of his passes with 228 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions.

Travis Etienne Jr., who suffered a season-ending foot injury in the preseason as a rookie last year, has also gotten some reps in this year's exhibitions. The former first-round pick has carried the ball 17 times for 52 yards (8.5 YPC) over two games as he settles into Jacksonville's RB1 role.

As for the Falcons, they have begun to prepare for new starting quarterback Marcus Mariota to take the reins. Mariota has started both of their preseason games but has only played limited reps as he looks to return to solidified QB1 status.

Fantasy owners will want to keep an eye on rookie wide receiver Drake London, who had one catch for 24 yards in his NFL debut against the Lions.
