How to make a boat banner in minecraft

Basically the title, I think it would be a good addition to the game to be able to place banners onto boats. This could be done by shift clicking the boat whilst holding a banner. Additionally: Doing this could either be purely aesthetic or make boats slightly faster as they would act as a sail. I’m slightly leaning towards the second option because how useless boats are mid to end-game.
