Why cant i hear anything on my iphone

If you're unable to hear a caller through the receiver or speaker, or if you can't hear sound notifications and media through the speaker, it seems that the iPhone speaker is not working. A few troubleshooting steps can solve iPhone sound problems safely. For a business owner, troubleshooting sound problems safely decreases the chances of causing unnecessary damage to the iPhone.

Press the volume buttons located on the right side of the phone while on the Home screen to test volume. If you're using the built-in speaker, the "ringer" icon appears on the screen. If you're using headphones, the "ringer (headphones)" icon appears on the screen when you adjust the phone's volume. If the "ringer (headphones)" icon appears on the screen without the headphone plugged in, the headset jack may be clogged with debris or an object that tricks the phone into thinking a headphone is plugged in.

Clean the headset pin with a clean lint-free cloth. Inspect the headset jack. If it's clogged with an object, remove it if it's reachable. If the object cannot be removed easily, take the iPhone to an Apple retail store for service.

Inspect the speaker mesh for dirt and debris. Clean the mesh with a clean, soft bristled brush to remove particles. A clogged iPhone speaker will not work properly.

Check the Mute button located above the volume buttons on the left side of your iPhone if you're still unable to hear anything. The Mute button controls the ringer. If an orange strip appears next to the button, the ringer is set to vibrate, so move the button to the right to enable ringtone notifications. The speaker icon appears on the screen. Press the volume up or down buttons to increase or reduce ringtone volume.

Touch "Settings" from the home screen and touch "Sounds" to view the iPhone's sound settings. Check the volume slider in the "Ringer and Alerts" section. If the slider is all the way to the left, you won't hear ringtone notifications, so drag it to the right to increase volume.

Touch the "Settings" icon. Touch "General" and then touch "Bluetooth" to display the Bluetooth settings if you use Bluetooth accessories on some occasions. If the Bluetooth feature is enabled, touch the "On/Off" button to turn off Bluetooth connections.

Restart the iPhone. Press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" button for a few seconds if you're still experiencing sound problems and then drag the red "Slide to power off" slider on the screen to turn off the iPhone. Press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" button again to turn on your iPhone.

Reset the iPhone. Press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" and "Home" buttons together for at least 10 seconds to reset the iPhone if you're still experiencing sound problems.

Restore the iPhone to original factory condition, which erases all data, as a method of last resort to solve the sound problem. Connect the iPhone to the computer using the USB cable. Launch iTunes and click your iPhone in the left pane under "Devices." Click the "Summary" tab and click the "Restore" button. Click the "Restore" button again and wait for the iPhone to restore the default factory settings. Your iPhone restarts automatically when the process completes. Drag the "Slide to set up" slider on the iPhone's screen and follow the guided steps in the iOS Setup Assistant to reconfigure your iPhone.

If you're using media applications such as FaceTime or the built-in Music app, drag the volume slider in the application to the right to increase volume if you can't hear anything. Some preinstalled and third-party applications such as instant messaging programs include a mute feature that disables sound; make sure this feature isn't activated.

Back up your iPhone before performing a restoration because this process deletes saved files and restores the default factory settings.

Take the iPhone to an Apple retail store for additional troubleshooting and repair if the phone is still experiencing sound problems. The device's hardware may be faulty.

Some screen protectors and film can cover the receiver and cause sound problems. In such a case, remove the screen protector completely.
