Why are kias easy to steal reddit

Someone broke into and tried to steal my boyfriend's Kia last night due to a tiktok post about how to steal Kias from mildlyinfuriating

Has anybody been seeing the viral videos of peoples Kia’s that have been getting stolen as a result of the sheer fact that they’re a Kia?

Seen people comment on how easy apparently it and can be started by a simple IPhone charging cable. Was wondering if that applies to the latest and newer models or if it’s simply all forms of Kia’s which is rather alarming.

Regardless be safe out there with your cars everyone!

So my 2019 Kia forte was stolen last night. According my local PD Kia and Hyundai are being targeted in high volumes due to a security exploit. This was confirmed by two other people that came in to report their kia/hyundai stolen at the same time.

I don't know the technical details yet, but apparently it has something to do with passenger windows being able to be smashed without triggering security system. There's also something to do with steering column being easily exploited to start vehicle.

I can't seem to find anything online from kia or other sources what the deal is. But I want to warn the community, please secure your vehicles.

Many kias and Hyundai’s are being stolen in my area and was wondering why they’re being targeted and specifically if the Kia seltos is a car that is easy to steal. Any info on this topic would be much appreciated!

Lots of news coverage about Kias and Hyundais being the top stolen cars. Although I’m in the market for a Telluride, I didn’t pay much attention to the reports since I assumed it was much older models being stolen. Apparently it’s 2015+ model years that get taken most often.

Anyone had any issues with people breaking into their Telluride and/or stealing it? Police and news agencies don’t give details about how thieves are able to take Kias so easily so that they don’t encourage others to steal them. As a side effect, it’s hard to determine which attribute is being exploited and whether Tellurides are at risk. I.e. is it just models with keys, old fobs, or some other part not found in Tellurides? Or are Tellurides just as susceptible to theft as any other model.

The things they will admit to is that if you break the passenger window, the alarm will not go off. Question is whether ignition relay is equally easy to hack and/or if steering column can be pulled out and exploited? Or if Tellurides have a more secure immobilizer system.

I live in a major city and park on the street a lot. So I don’t want to buy a new car and have it stolen right away. Yes i can get a steering wheel lock but i’ll probably just buy a different vehicle altogether if it’s as easy to steal as they say.

Everyday I wake up to KIA vehicles being stolen. I was a victim too. Wife’s 2016 Optima was stolen in broad day light. Wtf KIA, currently thinking about cancelling my 2023 Sportage order. from kia

I personally know two people with Kia's that have been stolen in the past few months. One of our local radio hosts had his car (Kia) stolen twice now.

What's going on? And what makes these two manufacturers such ideal targets??
