Who chooses the wardrobe on the voice?

One of my favorite things to do with talent shows is look at contestant wardrobe transformations. Singers come to The Voice to show off their talents, but become huge fashion icons by the finale. The Voice wardrobe department takes the saying ‘you’ve got to look your best to sound your best’ to the absolute next level.

The job of the wardrobe department is to make the singers look like the stars they are. This department works with each singer to plan an outfit that makes them feel like the singer they were always destined to be. I love the outfits on the show this season because they all feel very true to each singer.

These singers already walked onto The Voice with a sense of style, but have really evolved throughout their time on the show. I think their designers chose only the best looks for them this season and it has added to their success on the series. Here are some of the best transformations we’ve seen so far this season.

Jershika Maple

Let’s talk about Jershika’s semifinals look. I think I audibly said “wow” as she walked onto stage. Her song and outfit choices were the best of the season by far. Jershika has premiered a huge sense of fashion since day one, so her transformation definitely wasn’t the most dramatic, but she still deserves to be mentioned. The wardrobe department took her already great looks to queenly status.

Lana Scott

This country singer auditioned for the show in a denim dress with thigh-high snakeskin boots. Since her audition, her style has only gotten better. Lana portrayed a beautiful, kind, girl next door vibe in her audition, but has recently been rocking a cowboy hat, sparkly boots, and more. They took her from girl next door vibes to the ultimate country queen.

Girl Named Tom

This sibling group came into the competition with comfortable, but nice, outfits. Even though their singing was connected since day one, their outfits weren’t always. After meeting with the wardrobe department, Girl Named Tom has been seen in mostly matching outfits.

The department typically matches Caleb and Joshua’s suits and puts Bekah in a flashier outfit. They always find a way to have her stand out, whether it be a sparkly dress, fun floral print, or different shade of their matching color.

Joshua Vacanti

This singer stepped on to The Voice stage in jeans, a button up shirt, a tie, and a dress coat. That look worked well for his blind audition, but it was obvious the wardrobe department wanted to give him a style that’s as bold as his voice is. Since Joshua‘s audition, we’ve seen him rocking bright colors, patterns, and more. He always portrays powerhouse vocals, so he definitely was in need of a wardrobe that’s just as loud as he is.

Hailey Mia

This 14 year old went into her audition wearing a really cute floral outfit and has been exploring the glam world ever since. Her audition outfit felt very age appropriate and almost gave off a timid, ordinary girl vibe. Hailey‘s on stage confidence has grown immensely during her time on this show and her fashion sense has appropriately matched it.

In the past few weeks, we’ve seen her more “glitzed” in far more intricate dresses. I think Hailey has gained a lot of her on stage confidence from feeling so confident in her appearance as a powerhouse diva.

Wendy Moten

This seasoned singer came into the competition in an all black outfit that featured a cowboy hat and booties. Even though Wendy already looked amazing on stage during her audition, the wardrobe department helped her experiment with bold colors, prints, and tons of sparkles. I think this wardrobe choice was perfect for this singer because you seriously can’t take your eyes off of her when she’s on stage.

For the past week fans of The Voice Australia have been baffled by one bizarre detail in the show - why the coaches never change their clothes. 

Kelly Rowland, Boy George, Delta Goodrem and Guy Sebastian have all been wearing the same outfits for two weeks now during the Blind Auditions. 

While some have speculated that all the auditions were filmed on the same day, many have suggested there may be 'budget cuts' in the wardrobe department. 

Budget cuts? For the past week fans of The Voice Australia have been baffled by one bizarre detail in the show - why the coaches never change their clothes. Kelly Rowland, Boy George, Delta Goodrem and Guy Sebastian have all been wearing the same outfits for two weeks now during the Blind Auditions

 However, Daily Mail Australia can reveal the surprisingly simple explanation.

The coaches deliberately wear the same clothes for continuity purposes, so producers can seamlessly cut auditions together during the editing process.

In reality, all of the Blind Auditions were filmed over several days at Fox Studios in Sydney back in February. 

By having the coaches wear the same clothes, producers can pick which acts appear in each episode. 

The coaches' repeated outfits have caused a stir on Twitter.

'Episode 5 of #TheVoiceAU and they're still wearing the same clothes as they have on every other night. How does this happen every year?' wrote one fan on Monday.

'So wait they filmed this all in one day? They've been in the same clothes for weeks,' questioned another viewer on Twitter.

Producers use the same continuity tactic with the coaches' clothing every year.

It is the detail that seems to have viewers of The Voice Australia scratching their heads each year. Why are the superstar judges wearing the same outfits on every episode?

You may have noticed Keith Urban, Jessica Mauboy, Guy Sebastian and Rita Ora have been rocking the same looks the past two weeks the show has been airing on Aussie screens.

Urban has been in black, Sebastian in blue, Mauboy in pink and Ora in purple.

Considering they love the glam outfits, you would think they would want to change it up.

But there is a reason they don’t – and it is all about continuity.

During the blind auditions – filmed over several days last year – the judges were required to look the same each day so editors can use auditions from different days in the same episode.

The order of the auditions in real life, is not necessarily the order they air on television.

It is a trick the show has used for years and it isn’t unique to The Voice Australia.

In 2019, the UK version of the show posted a playful statement on Twitter addressing the production secret publicly.

“We feel like we really need to address a very important and sensitive issue: It’s all true,” it read.

“Our coaches have been wearing the same clothes for six weeks now. And we feel it’s important to inform you all that they will be in the same outfits next week, too.

“We really hope our loyal fans can stick with us through this difficult, emotional and potentially confusing time.

“We are looking forward to consciously uncoupling with these outfits, and revealing new looks at the Battles.

“Thank you for all your continued support and concern. P.S. Please stop tweeting us about the outfits. WE KNOW!”
