CAIRO (Reuters) -Egypt's supply minister said on Monday that an agreement to buy wheat from India still stood despite recent curbs on Indian exports, although it is unclear when the grain will be shipped. Egypt, one of the world's biggest wheat importers, has sought to diversify its suppliers since facing higher global prices and disruptions to purchases from the Black Sea after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February. Supply Minister Aly Moselhy said in June that Egypt had contracted to buy 180,000 tonnes of wheat from India, after initially agreeing to purchase 500,000 tonnes.
The Indian rupee is likely to strengthen to 78.50-79.50 against the dollar by March 2023, as commodity prices stabilise globally and improving domestic fundamentals lure back foreign portfolio inflows, the country's top private lender HDFC Bank said. The rupee has has weakened 7.5% so far in the 2022 calendar year, trading close to a record low of 80.0650 hit last month, as aggressive rate hikes by the Federal Reserve sent the dollar rallying and commodity prices soared after Russia invaded Ukraine. Cooling commodity prices and robust liquidity across the globe, along with strong fundamentals of some emerging markets compared to developed economies, should bring foreign investors back to India towards the end of the fiscal year after near-term volatility eases, she said.

China's central bank on Monday cut benchmark loan rates in an attempt to boost an economy battered by the government's strict zero-Covid policy and a slump in the property market.
India's headline retail inflation may ease below 6% by the fourth quarter of this financial year, bringing an end to the current cycle of rate hikes, analysts said over the weekend. Following the release of minutes from the central bank's monetary policy committee on Friday, analysts said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may hike repo rates by 50-60 basis points by December. "We expect the RBI to deliver two 25 bps rate hikes at the September and December meetings, taking the repo rate to 5.90%," Rahul Bajoria, chief India economist at Barclays said.
