What is the most dangerous hotel in the world

Titles have been given to some hotels recently; from most expensive to, the oldest, the worst, and even the most haunted. Now it just feels like hotels have now transformed from being just places for lodging to becoming interesting attractions that need to be explored. Just when the world thought the hotel titles were over, the most dangerous hotel in the world is here to get those adrenaline pumping.

About The Frying Pan Tower

The Frying Pan Tower was built in the 1960s on a part of the Atlantic Ocean to be used as a lighthouse as several shipwrecks had been found at this location due to the shallow waters. For the next couple of decades, it served its purpose and saved the lives of several mariners until it became abandoned in the early 2000s as new and better technological alternatives such as GPS were introduced. After the hotel was abandoned, it was auctioned in 2010 and bought by Richard Neal - a software engineer who eventually began renovating the tower to serve as a hotel that would later turn out to be the world’s most dangerous hotel.

Staying At The Frying Pan Tower

Yes, that’s right - the frying pan tower, and if that name is not odd and scary enough, consider the fact that the waters are filled with sharks and other sea creatures and the tower stands at 80 feet on four steel legs which are constantly being bombarded by the mighty waves of the sea and merciless hurricanes.

Getting To The Hotel

The Frying Pan Tower is located more than 30 miles away from any land which means the only way to get in is by air (helicopter) or by sea (boat). The helicopter ride is safer (and more expensive) because the weather and waves make boat transportation difficult. But even with the difficulty of the boat transportation, it remains a popular and cheaper way to get to this hotel. Guests can even come to the tower on their boats.

When visiting by boat, also be aware that the process to get on board consists of riding the boat close to one of the tower’s legs and then getting pulled up by a hoist connected to a bosun’s chair for a period which depends on the number of people and luggage that needs to be pulled up from the boat. Some say “safety first” but those who prefer “fun first” will no doubt enjoy visiting by boat (on the insane waves). By the way, the thrill of being pulled up and seeing all the details of the tower is exciting - those who come by helicopter are also offered the chance to experience this as well.

It Is Always Under Renovation

With the constant hurricanes and the tower's exposure to the sun and water, the tower is always under renovation to fight rust. Parts of the tower get cut off occasionally and replaced with new ones so nobody falls off while holding a handle or standing somewhere. Some of the doors and windows also undergo this constant renovation as they are important shields for guests from the strong winds.

“It’s As Safe As We Can Make It” - Richard Neal

While the management tries its best to make the tower safe, guests have a huge part to play in staying safe which is why they are required to sign a waiver before embarking on this adventure. Instructions are to be followed accordingly and guests are also expected to avoid taking risky actions without approval or guidance by the hotel’s staff.

Things To Enjoy At The Frying Pan Tower

Besides the excitement of just being on top of the tower and getting blown by rushing winds, guests can also engage in these activities to catch more thrill at the hotel.

Golf

Imagine playing golf on a hotel’s helipad in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. One would ask where the holes are. Well, there are no holes; it's just all about shooting balls made out of fish food into the ocean to feed some fish, and that's absolutely exciting.

Beautiful Sunrises And Sunsets

The views of sunrise and sunsets at this hotel are amazing and the never-ending waves, stars, and rushing wind make it more exciting to just sit outdoors and enjoy this experience every night.

Fishing

Lots of fishing opportunities are always available at the Frying Pan Tower and guests can cook their catch in the hotel’s kitchen as well. There are sharks in the waters so good luck on the big catch.

Forget all about haunted Airbnbs and scary campsites — this is the scariest place to stay. Named the world’s most dangerous hotel because it’s not much more than a pile of rust in the middle of the ocean, the Frying Pan Tower is not for the faint-hearted.

Built in 1964 to guide ships in the treacherous waters of Frying Pan Shoals off the coast of North Carolina, the Frying Pan Tower is a not-so-solid-looking steel structure where you can spend the night. The tower stopped operating as a light station in 2004 and is the property of Richard Neal since 2010. Neal, an eccentric character to say the least, has turned the tower into the scariest hotel in the world and uses he proceeds from the business to maintain the structure.

Hyper, Justin, and Andrew, the YouTubers behind the channel MoreJstu, spent one day and one night in the Frying Pan Tower and got the royal treatment. They arrived by the only way possible, helicopter, and after being shown the inside of the tower and their surprisingly comfortable bedroom, they took a tour of the outside, taking a good look at the rust-eaten beams that keeps the world’s most dangerous hotel up above the ocean rather than at the bottom of it.

But while jumping up and and down on rusty metal mesh above shark-infested waters was scary, Neal was not going to let them off the hook so easily. They wanted to be scared and Neal was here for it. The owner got them to swing from the top of the tower by ropes a few inches above the water; he gave them a firework show from the helipad; and he scared them with a potential pirate ship sighting. All in all, a pretty ordinary stay at the world’s most dangerous hotel.

Theoretically, in a hotel, nothing to fear. After all, it is somewhat the minimum for an establishment to ensure the safety of its customers. However, this is not the case everywhere. We are not talking about the kind of hotel where you can find yourself face to face with a cockroach the size of your neighbor’s cat when you get up in the morning or those where the bedding leaves something to be desired. No, here, it’s more about these hotels where you risk your life…

Planted in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, in the Skid Row district, one of the poorest in the country but also the most dangerous, the Cecil Hotel has had a bad reputation since a young Canadian tourist, Elisa Lam, was found died in one of the water tanks located on the roof (the tenants having drunk the water in question for days). Even if in fact, it had already been a long time since the establishment had bad press when Elisa Lam decided to stay there. The young girl having been notably preceded by the serial killer Richard Ramirez who had made it his headquarters. At the Cecil, where the cream of LA used to throng and where dealers, sleazy people and creepy misfits have since moved in. Where suicides are commonplace. To learn more about this unsolved mystery of the 21st century, we advise you the documentary Scene of Crime: The Disappeared of the Cecil Hotel, on Netflix, is highly recommended.

Former South Carolina lighthouse, built to guide cruise ships, this platform became a hotel in 2010. There are only 8 rooms. Lost in the middle of the sometimes raging waves, it turns out to be more than risky. Especially for sleepwalkers who can, in no time, fall into the water in the middle of the night.

September 12, 1980: A man and his mistress are found dead in one of the rooms of this hotel. The body on one side and the head on the other, with fingers spread all around the crime scene. Most disturbing is that no signs of infringement were revealed. The only clue is a curious message inscribed with a piece of soap on the bathroom mirror: “This”…

The former owners of this inn had the annoying habit of killing their residents and then cutting up the bodies before cooking them. Their modus operandi is blood-curdling: when the couple had set their sights on someone, they led them into a room where there was a trap door that opened directly onto a tank filled with a boiling liquid. So yes ok, it was in the 17th century, but it seems that the 60 victims of the former inmates are still prisoners of the walls…

An authentic prison transformed into a hotel. Not a chic hotel for bourgeois in need of thrills but something really special! Because here, the conditions of imprisonment have been kept identical. Taking a room there is therefore like sleeping on a rather dirty bunk, behind bars, with threats from the “guards” and nocturnal complaints from other customers.

It was here that Stephen King had the idea for The Shining. A hotel which, according to legend, is indeed haunted. From there to discovering a zombie in the bathtub or creepy binoculars in the hallways, there is only one step…

The former shack of Lizzie Borden, who became infamous for chopping up her father and stepmother, is now a bed and breakfast. It is therefore possible to pawn, or at least try, in the same room where the bodies were found in a bloodbath. At breakfast, the tenants serve exactly the same menu as the one the victims ate before their death. Vibe…

It’s unlikely that the owners of this hotel on the US East Coast have decided to open their establishment to make it the sleaziest and dirtiest in all of America. It is however the title which was given to him by customers successively outraged by the conditions which the hotel proposed. It was also the headquarters of a serial killer to date unidentified. Several corpses were found there, neatly lined up, in one of the rooms. The case was never solved, but the hotel was demolished.

We stay in the United States with this hotel in which a woman was found dead. A story in certain aspects quite similar to that of the Cecil Hotel except that here, the hotel in question, is rather classy at first glance. If the authorities evoked the thesis of the suicide, nothing is obvious because several indices let think that it would have been assassinated. Still, to this day, the truth is not known. It seems that the ghost of the unfortunate woman continues to haunt the corridors of Del Coronado…

Notorious for being at the center of a high-profile criminal case, the Dollar Inn has since struggled to redeem itself. The facts go back several years. Jessica, a 14-year-old girl runs away from home with her 23-year-old boyfriend. On their way to get married in New York, the couple stopped at the Dollar Inn. In the next room, a friend of the boyfriend, who is responsible for driving the car. During the night, the friend in question hears disturbing noises but does not really freak out. The next day, the two men leave but not Jessica. His body remains untraceable. The boyfriend is arrested but there are no clues to hold him back for too long. In 2008, the same guy commits suicide after killing his wife…
